The Leslie Harris Centre of Regional Policy and Development (Harris Centre), Memorial University, has a mandate to facilitate and coordinate Memorial University’s activities in the area of regional policy and development. The Centre serves as a knowledge mobilization unit, supporting faculty, staff and students seeking to connect with the needs of Newfoundland and Labrador. The Harris Centre holds regional workshops, lunchtime synergy sessions and Memorial Presents public policy forums throughout the year.
The Harris Centre Advisory Board, which includes individuals from the community, industry and government from across the province and Atlantic Canada, has encouraged the Harris Centre to increase its activity related to the fundamental demographic and labour market issues that are critical to the future of Newfoundland and Labrador. Thus, the On the Move Partnership: Employment-Related Geographical Mobility in the Canadian Context fits closely with the Harris Centre’s current research and knowledge mobilization priorities. As a partner with On the Move, the Harris Centre will coordinate four synergy sessions and three Memorial Presents public forums on employment-related geographical mobility over the course of the partnership. Dr. Rob Greenwood, Executive Director of the Harris Centre, is also a co-investigator with On the Move.
