Kristina Welch is a PhD candidate in the School of Resource and Environmental Management (REM) at Simon Fraser University. Her work examines the implications of long distance labour commuting for women in rural resource communities in British Columbia, including how women are responding to the employment constraints and seeking alternative forms of work, what impact this has on the economic outcomes of communities, and what emerging roles in the community women are taking on. Kristina obtained her B.Sc. from the University of Western Ontario in Computer Science and a Masters in Business Administration from the University of British Columbia’s Sauder School of Business.
