The Rural and Coastal Communities Network (RCCN) is a non-profit organization that has been collaborating with rural communities in Nova Scotia for over 20 years. Membership is comprised of approximately 200 organizations, ranging from community economic development agencies, fishing industry representatives (harvesters and processors), agricultural groups, First Nations, African Nova Scotians, municipalities, church and community organizations, unions, universities, and other networking organizations. The primary concerns of RCCN are the social and economic well-being and sustainability of rural Nova Scotia.
RCCN partners in research projects of direct relevance to its membership and is committed to community-based participatory research that benefits rural citizens. As a community organization, the RCCN is keenly aware that employment-related geographical mobility (E-RGM) is affecting rural lives in profound ways. The RCCN’s partnering role in On the Move is grounded in its desire to more fully understand the impacts of E-RGM on the economic and social sustainability of rural communities, and will contribute to the RCCN’s mandate to bring light to important issues of rural development and resilience.
