The Centre for Women and Gender Research (Kvinnforsk), University of Tromsǿ (UiT), promotes gender research and perspectives in all faculties at the university. Since its establishment in 1995, the Centre has initiated graduate courses and research projects, worked to improve the gender balance among faculty and disseminated findings from gender research to the public.
Kvinnforsk has played a leadership role both in funding and hosting various international initiatives on the subject of gender and mobility, and currently has several research projects on this subject in development. The Centre is particularly interested in increased knowledge sharing in the field of gender and mobility across the North Atlantic Rim – from Norway to Iceland, the Faroe Islands and Newfoundland and Labrador.
Dr. Siri Gerrard, Kvinnforsk’s academic coordinator and a co-investigator with On the Move, has been engaged in collaborative work with researchers in Iceland, the Faroe Islands and Newfoundland and Labrador for a number of years. Partnering with On the Move will extend Kvinnforsk’s ongoing collaboration with Canadian colleagues, providing opportunities for comparative analysis and collaboration on research issues of common interest. Research undertaken by the On the Move team will shed light on an important nexus of challenges, problems and opportunities for the economies and societies of the North Atlantic Rim.
