The International Personnel Management Association (IPMA)-Canada was formed in 1906 and is the oldest human resource organization in Canada. IPMA-Canada’s mission is to promote excellence in the practice of human resources management. The Association provides training and development opportunities to members, organizes and hosts conferences and seminars, works with academic institutes that provide human resource educational programs and provides current and timely information to members through its publications and presentations. IPMA-Canada has eight chapters, with members in all provinces and territories in the country, and is linked with IPMA-HR in the United States and 27 other countries around the world. The IPMA is a non-profit organization, run by a dedicated team of volunteers.
The Newfoundland and Labrador Chapter of IMPA Canada has 150 members, including HR professionals and students; approximately 60% are employed with the private sector. IPMA Canada-NL recognizes that many employees in the province are engaged in employment-related geographical mobility and that employers often struggle to find ways to help their employees deal with issues and concerns related to travelling long distances and/or working in mobile workplaces.
