The mission of the Immigrant and Multicultural Services Society (IMSS) is to provide settlement and integration services to immigrants and refugees throughout Prince George and the northern region of British Columbia. Through its services and programs, the IMSS strives to support racial harmony in order to build a healthy and just society which values and promotes equality, social justice for all and Canada’s cultural diversity.
With over 30 years of service, the IMSS has established a collaborative working relationship with agencies throughout the northern region. Through collaborative and action research plans, the IMSS and researchers at the University of Northern BC have been working together to highlight the barriers to, and needs for, the strengthened participation of new immigrants and temporary foreign workers in northern community life. Research undertaken as part of the On the Move Partnership will enable new voices to be heard and concerns recognized, strengthening community receptivity by highlighting ways in which the IMSS can enhance its services to ensure successful integration and settlement of newcomers into rural communities.
