With centres located in communities across Newfoundland and Labrador, the Community Youth Network (CYN) is a provincial initiative with a mandate to provide a variety of services for youth living in or at risk of poverty. These support services focus on five main areas: education, employment, capacity building, supportive services and social/recreation opportunities. Created to improve the quality of life for young people, the Network offers prevention and early intervention programs through community building and partnerships and is funded by the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador.
In its capacity as a direct service provider for youth throughout Newfoundland and Labrador, the Network recognizes that employment-related geographical mobility is impacting youth across the province – from coping with a parent’s employment-related absence from the home, to making decisions about education and career choices that may require becoming a worker on the move. Research undertaken as part of the On the Move Partnership will assist the CYN in its mission to ensure that all youth have equal opportunities to find their place in society.
