Created in 2001 as the Construction Sector Council, BuildForce Canada is a national industry-led organization with a mandate to provide accurate and timely labour market information to advance the needs of the Canadian construction industry. Working in four key areas – labour market information; learning innovation; recruitment and retention; and standards and skills development – BuildForce Canada leads programs and initiatives that build the capacity and capability of the construction workforce to meet current and future industry demand.
BuildForce Canada recognizes that labour mobility is a key construction industry mechanism, necessary to effectively manage workforce requirements through cyclical peaks and valleys. Employment-related mobility has long been an area of significant interest to the organization, which has undertaken two studies on labour mobility in Canada’s industrial construction sector: Working Mobile (2007) and Working Local (2005). BuildForce Canada is participating in the On the Move Partnership as it recognizes the crucial need to understand the dynamic characteristics of mobility and the mobile workforce as Canada moves forward with a strong construction market. Rosemary Sparks, Executive Director of BuildForce Canada, sits on the On the Move Program Committee.
