Since 1912 the Alberta Federation of Labour (AFL) has fought to improve conditions for working people, their families and communities. Made up of 29 affiliate unions from both the public and private sectors, the Federation represents over 155,000 unionized workers across Alberta, including sectors with high numbers of workers engaged in employment-related geographical mobility. The AFL has been at the forefront of advocating for the rights and working conditions of all workers in Alberta, including those from other provinces and countries.
As a central labour organization, the AFL sees the scale of workers on the move in Alberta as unprecedented in Canada and believes that the impacts of this work-related mobility will be felt for generations to come. Research undertaken as part of the On the Move Partnership will support the Federation in its mandate to support workers in Alberta.
