Congratulations to On the Move team member Dalia Gesualdi-Fecteau on recently being named to the Expert Panel on Modern Federal Labour Standards! The panel is studying five main issues identified during consultations conducted in 2017-2018 on modernizing federal labour standards in Canada and relate to the changing nature of work. These issues include: federal minimum wage; labour standards protections for non-standard workers; disconnecting from work-related e-communications outside of work hours (sometimes known as the “right to disconnect”); access and portability of benefits; and collective voice for non-unionized workers. These issues, in particular “labour standards protections for non-standard workers” and “access and portability of benefits” are of significant relevance to much of the research being conducted as part of the On the Move Partnership. More information on the expert panel, its mandate and the main issues under discussion can be found on the Government of Canada website.
