On the Move Film Screening

Please join us for the launch of the two latest On the Move Partnership digital stories. Take the opportunity to view these fascinating stories and to meet and talk with some of the film makers and participants. With films by Martin Bierne, George Gmelch, and Sharon Roseman.

Room A1043, First floor of Arts and Administration Building, Memorial University, 230 Elizabeth Ave

Reception starts at 6:30pm with films starting at 7:00pm

This event is free, wheelchair accessible, and open to the public.

Free parking is available in Lot 15B in front of the Music Building. A map of the university campus identifying locations can be found here

“Making the Rounds: Ron Lee’s Lifetime of Service” (2019) is a story about a rich life of moving from place to place as part of work, including as a clergyman, teacher, and a CN train employee. It highlights the key role of various modes of transportation in the history of Newfoundland and Labrador. Featuring Ron Lee. Director: Sharon Roseman. Producers and Editors: Sharon Roseman and Lesley Butler. Associate Producer: Derek Norman. Camera and Sound Recording: Derek Norman, Lesley Butler, Sharon Roseman. Research: Sharon Roseman and Lesley Butler, as part of the On the Move Partnership. Produced at Memorial University, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences Film Unit, 2019, with support from SSHRC, InnovateNL and CFI. Running time approx: 30 min.

“A Family on the Move.” (2019). A digital story exploring the impact of mobility on a family of mobile workers from New Harbour, NL where the husband, Aiden, works as a seaman on tankers, the wife, Zula, drives a long daily commute as a nurse, and their son, Andre, works on a Coast Guard vessel. Director / Producer: Martin Beirne; Co-producers George Gmelch and Derek Norman; Camera Ian McGuire; Researchers: George Gmelch and Diane Royal. Produced at Memorial University, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences 2019, with support from SSHRC, InnovateNL and CFI. Running time approx: 12 min.
